The ways
I work
EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is a powerful evidence-based trauma therapy that works by taking the charge out of painful memories. It’s different from standard talk therapy because it uses the nervous system to reprocess negative information. Adults often see gains after a few reprocessing sessions per memory. Kids respond faster because their memory networks are less complicated, but they often need creative modifications to engage effectively. I am trained and certified in this model.
Internal Family Systems
Internal Family Systems is broadly categorized as an ego-state therapy. This evidence-based therapy seeks to identify the different parts of your personality, understand the functions of each part, and allow them to move into preferred roles. This therapy is especially useful for people with dissociative systems and those who struggle to hold back on destructive behavior. It’s strong evidence base is even shown to be effective for treating rheumatoid arthritis! My study of IFS includes workshops and consultation with advanced supervisors, but not the formal Level 1 training.
Emotionally Focused Therapy
Emotionally focused therapy is an attachment-informed therapy best known as the gold standard for couple’s therapy. Developed by Sue Johnson, EFT has some of the most robust research supporting its effect. With this therapy, you will learn the patterns that drive family conflicts, de-escalate them, and connect with each other in deep, meaningful ways. Although it’s most commonly used with couples, this method is well developed for family work with parent/child and sibling relationships. I studied this model in my post-graduate Marriage and Family Therapy program, and I completed a lengthy consultation series with an ICEEFT Certified EFT Supervisor.
EMDR Consultation
Becoming an approved EMDR consultant takes hundreds of sessions, dozens of hours of mentoring from gifted trainers, and advanced continuing education. For the families I see, this means you don't just benefit from my personal experience, but all I've learned from helping other therapists handle unique and rare cases from diverse backgrounds. What I offer that stands out from many consultants is bringing this therapy to children and families with fragmented, dissociative systems. I bring fluidity and creativity to this model, and I borrow from talented therapists I truly admire.
